CITY COMMENT ON JUDGE GILLMOR’S RULING ON BUS PASS TRO
Federal Judge Helen Gillmor today issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) against the City. The TRO requires that the City continue to honor existing bus passes for senior citizens and the disabled for the 10-day period that ends on November 17, 2003. City Deputy Corporation Counsel Gregory Swartz issued the following statement:
“We are awaiting Judge Gillmor’s order so that we can clearly understand the scope of the TRO. We believe that it only requires that the City continue to recognize existing bus passes through November 17, 2003, rather than November 15, 2003, as originally planned.
“We do not believe that the order will require the City to halt the issuance of new bus passes or the processing of refunds for existing bus passes.
An expedited hearing for a Preliminary Injunction will be held November 17, 2003.
