Public Communications Division Department of Customer Services City & County of Honolulu 523-4385 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE SEPTEMBER 26, 2002 CITY SPONSORS 17TH ANNUAL CHRISTMAS WREATH CONTEST Get out your buttons and bows, burlaps and beads. It’s time once again for the annual Christmas Wreath Contest, sponsored by the City and County of Honolulu. Now in its 17th year, the popular craft competition is held during the Christmas season and offers a top prize of $200. There are three contest divisions: Adult Wreath Contest, which is open to any individual or group; Children & Youth Wreath Contest, open to any individual or group ages 17 or younger; and Theme Wreath Contest, open to any individual or group that best depicts the theme, “Songs of Christmas.” A ribbon and monetary award will be given to the winners in each division. First place prize is $150, second place is $100 and third place is awarded $75. An overall “Best in the Show” will receive the Mayor’s Holly Award of $200 while six “honorable mentions” will each be awarded a monetary prize of $25. Entries can be obtained at any Satellite City Hall or parks district office. Entry deadline for wreath submission is December 4, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. All wreaths will be accepted at Lane Gallery, on the ground floor of the Diamond Head end of Honolulu Hale, 530 South King Street. No late entries will be accepted. All entries must include a short narrative detailing the materials used in the creation of the wreath. All entries will be exhibited in Lane Gallery in Honolulu Hale from December 7, 2002 to January 1, 2003. The City and County of Honolulu reserves the right to refuse any entry.
