WASTEWATER SPILL INTO NUUANU STREAM

     Cracks in a 10-inch sewer line caused raw wastewater to leak and spill into Nuuanu Stream today (October 28).  The volume and duration of the spill is not known as City crews are stillrepairing the sewer line. 

      The Department of Environmental Services was notified of the situation at about 7:00 a.m. and responded at 8:15 a.m.  The spill, located near the intersection of Kukui Street and College Walk in Nuuanu, is ongoing.

      Warning signs have been posted along the stream.  Affected waters will be sampled for laboratory analysis.

      The State Department of Health was notified of the incident.
