HONOLULU ONCE AGAIN TOPS BIG CITIES
IN NATIONAL DIGITAL SURVEY

           For the second year in a row, Honolulu ranks first among the nation’s largest cities in the 2002 Digital Cities Survey conducted by the Center for Digital Government.

           Honolulu tied with Tampa, Florida to top cities with populations greater than 250,000.  The City was ranked first in government websites and first in the use of technology to deliver government services.

The repeat strong showing was especially impressive because a record number of cities participated this year. Microsoft sponsors the survey.

            “This is a gratifying affirmation of the hard work and dedication of our information technology staff in using technology to bring government closer to our people,” said Mayor Jeremy Harris.  “At the same time, we have improved the efficiency and effectiveness in providing our services.”

            Following Honolulu and Tampa in the ratings for large cities were Kansas City, New York City and Seattle (tied), and Chicago and Colorado Springs (tied).  Des Moines placed first among cities with populations between 125,000 and 250,000.
