TO AMEND THE GENERAL PLAN OF THE CITY AND COUNTY OF HONOLULU TO
INCLUDE ADDITIONAL POLICIES ON PUBLIC SAFETY
WHEREAS, the General Plan of the City and County of Honolulu
provides guidance for public policies that enhance public safety
and improve the general welfare of our community; and
WHEREAS, there is a need to place greater emphasis on the
Oahu Civil Defense Agency's role as a public educator and long
range planner for the safety of our communities; and
WHEREAS, Section 6-104 of the Revised Charter of the City
and County of Honolulu calls for the agency to "Develop, prepare
and ... assist in the implementation of civil defense plans and
programs to protect and promote the public health, safety and
welfare"; and
WHEREAS, there is a need for greater long range planning and
education to increase public awareness and agency readiness in
their response to potential hazards to public safety; now
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED that in compliance with Section 5-412 of the
Revised Charter, Resolution No. 82-188, Amended Draft No. 2
(adopted December 8, 1982) as amended, relating to the General
Plan of the City and County of Honolulu, be amended in the manner
shown in Exhibit A, attached hereto and made a part hereof.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Council of the City and County
of Honolulu that the Clerk is hereby directed to transmit this
Resolution to the Mayor for approval, as prescribed in Section 5-412 of the Revised Charter; and BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED by the Council of the City and County of Honolulu that this Resolution shall take effect upon its approval pursuant to Section 5-412 of the Revised Charter.
