EXPRESSING COUNCIL POLICY ON THE RENOVATION OF THE WINSTEDT
HOUSE.
WHEREAS, Capital Improvement Budget Ordinance No. 86-66
appropriated funds to "renovate Winstedt House for use as
community center or construct a community center"; and
WHEREAS, the City Administration has requested that the
Council make a policy decision on whether the funds should be use
for "renovation" or "construction"; and
WHEREAS, the Council's Committee on Parks and Recreation
discussed both alternatives at its May 27 committee meeting and
was informed that renovation would be desirable based on meetings
with community representatives and other interested parties; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City and County of
Honolulu that the Winstedt House be partially renovated to retain
its character including, but not limited to: the restoration of
its structure, walls and roof so that it is structurally safe and
meets building code; the renovation of the basement and ground
floor to accommodate offices and meeting rooms; the installation
of full group kitchen and bathroom facilities; and the
construction of a pavillion in the yard area; and
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu, the Managing Director, and the Director of Parks and Recreation.
