WHEREAS, Aloha Friday and Aloha Summer have, in the past,
been an island tradition in keeping with the spirit of aloha as
island dress; and
WHEREAS, the Council of the City and County of Honolulu had
extended the practice of aloha attire from Aloha Summer to Aloha
Week with no loss in dignity, decorum or efficiency; and
WHEREAS, the garment manufacturing industry is the third
largest manufacturing industry in Hawaii with gross wholesale
sales of over $35 million; and
WHEREAS, the industry, through the Hawaiian Fashion Guild,
accurately represents and attractively portrays Hawaii throughout
the United States where its garments are sold, as well as
elsewhere in the world; and
WHEREAS, aloha exists for 12 months of the year in the
islands and knows no season; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City and County of
Honolulu that the residents of the City and County of Honolulu
are encouraged to wear aloha attire throughout the year; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of the Council of
the City and County of Honolulu take the lead in this connection
by continuing its practice of wearing optional aloha attire at
all of its meetings; and
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED by said Council that the Clerk be, and she is, hereby directed to transmit copies of this Resolution to Mr. Jack Andersen, President of Hawaiian Fashion Guild, and to all of the members of the Hawaiian Fashion Guild.
