Mayor Announces Green Parking Program

Wednesday, September 3, 2008 Today Mayor Mufi Hannemann announced the development of a new program to offers drivers of hybrid, bio-diesel powered, electric and other alternative energy cars preferred parking spaces at city facilities.

"As part of our vision for the 21st Centruy Ahupua‘a, we would like to encourage fuel efficient and alternative energy transportation choices for personal vehicles," said the Mayor.

The program will be presented to the City Council for approval later this year, and pilot projects at select city parking lots could start soon thereafter.

“Green” vehicles would be registered with the city’s Department of Motor Vehicles and receive a special placard to display on their rear view mirror.
