Narcotics Abatement

The problem of illegal drug use and drug crimes in our communities is a complex problem that requires multi-disciplinary solutions.  Preventing substance abuse and drug crimes cannot be achieved by law enforcement agencies working in isolation.  Community involvement is essential.  Community prosecutors collaborate with residents, property owners/managers, homeowners' associations, private organizations, law enforcement and other agencies to combat drug-related nuisances, restore neighborhood safety, and support innocent, often elderly, homeowners in reclaiming their property.

Heightened public awareness about the drug problem is promising.  Communities island-wide are taking a stance against illegal drug activity.  Residents are forming neighborhood security watch groups, reporting anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers, and taking other positive steps to keep their neighborhoods drug-free.  Property owners, leasing agents, and property managers are working to keep residential and commercial rental properties drug-free

Anyone interested in working on community prosecution initiatives may contact the Community Prosecution Program, Department of the Prosecuting Attorney, City and County of Honolulu at (808) 547-7400.
