FOSTER BOTANICAL GARDEN

 

Dr. William F. Hillebrand Garden Tour at Foster Botanical Garden             

             Hillebrand was the first person to be a gardener at Foster Botanical  Garden.  Come see the trees he planted in

             the 1850's.

            Before modern medicine, natural remedies were used.

ABC of Pruning Roses             

             This class wiill focus on how to properly prune roses.  The discussion will also include disease control and care

             in Hawaii's tropical climate.

             Grow your herbs in a small area to boost your cooking.

Aroma Therapy

             Join us and learn the basics of aromatherapy.  You will leave knowing how to purchase wisely, how to use oils safely,

             and some simple application techniques.

Lauhala Weaving for Beginners

             Join us and learn how to select, remove thorns, clean, strip and weave lauhala projects.  Each class is four sessions.

             Bring a snack.

Docent/Reception Training for Foster Botancal Garden

             Learn the names and interesting facts about the trees in Foster Botanical Garden.  Share your knowledge with visitors

             from all over the world and with our local school children.  Classes will be held on Tuesday afternoons from 1:00 p.m.

             to 2:30 p.m.

             Supply Fee:  $25.00 which is reimbursed after twenty five hours of volunteering.

             Join us and learn how to prepare ti leaves several ways and how to create a variety of lei and ti roses.

LILIUOKALANI BOTANICAL GARDEN

 

Lili`uokalani Nu`uanu Stream Clean-Up Service Project

              Come clean Nu`uanu Stream inside Lili`uokalani Botanical Garden.  A great community service project!  HBG will provide

              garbage bags and gloves, but you may bring your own.  Need to wear covered shoes or boots.

              Call Brian at 621-5463 to schedule service projects for your group. 

             

 

 

HO`OMALUHIA BOTANICAL GARDEN

 

Bird Walk at Ho`omaluhia Botanical Garden

               Come and join the bird walk through the trails and around the lake to view the Hawaiian Coot and the Hawaiian Gallinule.

               Dave Watson and Abby Brown-Watson, hike leaders, suggest wearing a long pants and long sleeve shirt.  Need to wear

               walking shoes.  Bring binoculars, insect repellent, sun screen, drinking water and rain gear.  Limited enrollment.

Family Fishing at Ho`omaluhia Botanical Garden

               Come with your family to fish and enjoy the outdoors at Ho`omaluhia Botanical Garden.  This catch and release program

               is fun for everyone.  Recommended:  walking shoes, insect repellent, rain gear, and fishing supplies (barbless hooks).

               There istwenty (20) minute hike to the fishing area.

               When:   Saturdays and Sundays                        Time:  10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

 Keiki Fishing Derby

             Win a prize for catching the longest fish or the most fish.  Contest is for ages 4 to 17.  Call 233-7323 for more information
