SAMPLE ALL CLEAR CHECKLIST

This document contains general guidance for actions which need to be considered when an "All Clear" has been announced over radio and television. It is not intended as a definitive recovery document but may be used as the basis for the development of detailed business plans.

    Receive the "All Clear" over the radio and television.

    Copy Civil Defense advisories/instructions.

    Areas damaged:

      Roads closed

      Power outages

      Areas cordoned for safety reasons

      Curfew in effect

NOTE:

  • Boaters should remain at sea until an "All Clear" is received from the Harbor Master, State Department of Transportation.

    Assemble management team on/off-site, as required.

    Advise employees, guests, clients, vendors, passengers:

      NOT TO LEAVE SAFE AREAS UNTIL:

        Travel/movement can be safely accomplished.

         Destination status is determined safe.

         If business was closed, do not open until the above conditions can be met.

    If business is within a tsunami evacuation zone and has sustained damage, as soon as conditions permit:

      Conduct damage assessment

      Exercise caution. Check for:

         Structural damage

         Electrical short circuits

         Gas leaks

         Broken water lines

      Identify and resolve life-threatening or potentially dangerous conditions/situations.

      Treat and care for injured.

    Call 911 or the Department of Emergency Management (DEM) for assistance.

    Determine status of:

      Water (operative and potable)

      Electrical power

      Communications

      Fire protection system

      Elevators

      Vital records

    If damages have occurred:

      Contact insurance agent

      Take pictures, if possible

      Secure contractor support for:

         Utility/fire protection system restoration.

         Debris clearance.

         Building repair.

         Handling/safeguarding of hazardous material on premises.

    Advise:

       Department of Emergency Management of damages sustained or assistance required.

      American Red Cross of disaster relief needs.

      Employees, guests, clients, vendors, passengers, and media of schedule for resumption of services.
