6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

 

A quorum (8 members) must be present by 6:40 p.m. or the meeting will receive information or testimony only without the board making any decisions (Sect. 1, Chap 92 HRS revised 6/08).

Please turn off / silence all pagers and telephones. Recognition by the Chair is required before speaking.

Only two (2) turns per person to Speak, including Board Members, of one minute each.

 

I.      CALL TO ORDER at 6:30 p.m. by Chair Lockwood

 

II.     PUBLIC SAFETY & COMMUNITY LIAISON (20 Minutes) - Questions in private or in writing to these  officials before or after they speak would be greatly appreciated to save time

A.      Honolulu Fire Department ( 2 minutes)

B.      Honolulu Police Department Districts 1 & 7 (5 minutes total)

V.     FILLING OF VACANCIES (2 Minutes) - Sub-District One, 2 openings; Sub-District Two, 1 opening.

               In reviewing addresses of Board members, one member (Tilley) listed in Sub-District One actually lives

              in Sub-District Two. With openings in both sub-districts this error is administratively corrected. 

 

VI.    PRESENTATION  (15 Minutes)   Yoga Marathon for Peace to be held on Sunday, Sept. 21st 

            at Hawaii Tokai International College. Presenters are Debbie Azama-Park, Tamilyn Masuda, CPA,              Inc.; Maria Steele, Environmental Design Builders; Doug Fuqua, Hawaii Tokai International College.

 

      VII.    HOUSEKEEPING (5 Minutes) for information only; material that arrived after the agenda deadline

A.   Pumehana Street HECO project has started.  Expect delays for next 6 weeks.  Call 295–5422        for complaints (24 / 7) or information.

B.   Shopping Cart Update.  Go to hawaiipublicradio.org to hear a two-part informational update that

includes what the Retail Merchants of Hawaii are trying to do to resolve this issue.

 

C.   July 22nd meeting on Ala Wai Watershed. Go to manoawatershed.oceannit.com

for a report on this meeting.

D.   Neighborhood Commission, July 28th meeting up-date

E.   Hauoli and South King Street intersection up-date

 

VIII.   UNFINISHED BUSINESS  (5 minutes per topic)

            A.    Letter from Mayor, dated July 17th re: Dog Park

      B.   Pedestrian Safety up-date and walkabout for 2008

      C.   September 4th Meeting Date.        

          

IX.   NEW BUSINESS  (5 minutes per topic)               

                   A.   Candidate Forum for City Council District 5 and other races

                   B.   Resolution

                         RESOLVED, that the McCully – Moiliili N.B. No. #8 requests the City Council of Honolulu place

                         the Rail Transit issue on the ballot for the November 2008 election.

                   C.   Discover Moiliili Day (Oct. 4th) participation (Transportation/Public Safety focus)   

                   D.   Community Garden for Waiaka Street (discussion /information)  

                   E.   Ala Wai Watershed Meeting of July 22nd. Up-date Report   

                   F.   Resolution - Relocation of Neighborhood Commission Office to Mission Memorial Building  

                           

X.    APPROVAL OF July 3rd 2008 MINUTES (3 Minutes) – Please submit written corrections to expedite time. 

 

        XI.     TREASURER’S REPORT (2 Minutes) - Les Hata

 

       XII.    COMMITTEE REPORTS AND NEXT MEETINGS (2 Minutes each)

 

A.      Affordable Housing/Homeless - Chair Betty Lou Larson

Next meeting is to be determined as 2008 Legislation is being reviewed.

 

B.      Public Safety & Legislative Affairs – Chairs: DeVilbiss (Public Safety);Takamura (Legislature)

       Issues include but are not limited to: HPD, HFD and Emergency Mgmt. legislative packages,

Elderly Drivers, Pedestrian Safety, Street Repairs, Street Signs, Night Court, ConCon

Next meeting is August 21st  (third Thursday of each month @ MCC)

 

C.      Planning, Zoning & Transportation – Chair Carlos and Vice Chair Kondratovich

       Issues include but are not limited to: Public Condemnation for private concern

       Transit Oriented Development / Bicycle Master Plan

 Next meeting is August 19th (third Tuesday of each month @ American Legion Post)

 

 D.  Schools & Community Outreach - Chairs Tabor and Kyi-Yim

                          Issues include but are not limited to: UH -Manoa Long Range Development Plan review,

                          Early Childhood Education / Ala Wai Bridge

                          Transit Oriented Development: Schools and Library Master Planning
