The Kailua Neighborhood Board places a donation box for Board and community members at each meeting for non-perishable and canned foods as well as diapers and toilet tissue to distribute to appropriate service agencies.

Motion 1:  The Kailua Neighborhood Board requests the City and County of Honolulu, Department of Transportation Services to install additional signage on Kapaa Quarry Road warning of the steep downgrade.

A. Government and Community Services - Jon Chinen, Chair

1. Neighborhood Plan MMVIII – Neighborhood Commission’s public hearing was held at Windward         City Shopping Center Satellite City Hall between 2 and 4 p.m.  Board Testimony in support of proposed revision of the NP 2008 was given according to the Board’s motion adopted August 6, 2009.  Board may anticipate the ability to fill its two vacancies in sub-district 2 in October.

C. Transportation and Public Works - Chuck Prentiss, Vice-Chair

1.  The Department of Transportation Services (DTS) will study speeding problems on Wanaao Road after the sewer project is completed.

2.  DTS is studying speed abatement devices on Kaha Street between Oneawa and Kihapai.

3.  Letter sent to DTS asking for information on traffic volumes in Lanikai.

4.  Letter sent to DTS asking for re-study of Board’s request for a traffic light left turn phase at Oneawa and Kihapai.

D. Parks and Recreation Committee - Shawn Christensen, Chair

1. Missing signs at Kailua Beach Park.

3. Updates on Keolu Skate Park.
4. Repair timeline for Kailua District Park.

E. Public Health, Public Safety and Civil Defense Committee- Claudine Tomasa, Chair

The Committee continues to monitor several community issues and working with affected                         residents, government agencies, elected officials, and with the PZ&E Committee relating to:

1.       Kaiolena Drive/Lanikai parking violation by commercial wedding/photography business.

2.       Lead Pellets on Kaimalino Beach.

3.       Animal Cruelty & Suspicious Activity/ Public Safety issues at Kapa’a Quarry/Industrial Park Areas.

4.       Community Concerns/Public Safety issues/ The Shack. 

5.       Civil Defense Sirens in Kailua.

6.       Community Emergency Response Team.
