Government & Community Services Committee (GCS) – Jon Chinen, Chair

 

Motion 1: The Kailua Neighborhood Board supports  HCR 60 Requesting the University of Hawaii at Manoa, College of Social Sciences, Public Policy Center and Spark M. Matsunaga Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution to Convene a Working Group to Explore the Safe Use of Hunting Dogs on Public Hiking Trails. The issue is referred to Water, Land and Ocean Resources (WLO), send letters to WLO and all Windward State Legislators.

 

Motion 2: The Kailua Neighborhood Board supports City Council Bill 9 (2009) Relating to the Real Property Tax Credit for Low-Income Elderly Homeowners.

 

Motion 3: The Kailua Neighborhood Board supports expansion of Section 8 Housing and Urban Development (HUD) vouchers in order to address the availability of affordable housing. Send letter to HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan with copy to Lillian Koller, State Department of Human Services (DHS).

 

Motion 4: The Kailua Neighborhood Board invites the Honorable Mayor Mufi Hanneman attend the KNB Regular Meeting to define and detail his administration’s measures of effectiveness relative to Neighborhood Boards.

 

Motion 5:  The Kailua Neighborhood Board supports the appointment of the Honorable Judge Mark Recktenwald, Chief Judge of Intermediate Court of Appeals to the Hawaii State Supreme Court.  Letter shall be sent to the Honorable Governor Linda Lingle and Senate Judiciary Committee (JGO).

c.   Commercial vehicle traffic on corner of Kaelepulu and Mokulua Drives causing ponding where Board of Water Supply is engaged in construction activities

d.   School children need clearly defined crosswalk with large readable signs at McDonalds intersection (request signs similar to Hamakua and Aoloa)

e.   A request to DTS to look at the reflective paint for road lines and markings to try to increase reflectivity for low light conditions

f.    Wanaao Road between Kailua Road and Wanaao Road intersection and bridge-repaving & restriping; need additional crosswalks

g.   Kaiolena Drive and Lanikai – response from DTS – negative
