Japan . October 1-8, 2005 . Mayor Hannemann led a marketing campaign to Japan – "WOW Honolulu " – meeting with Tokyo Mayor Shintaro Ishihara and other government and business leaders to encourage continued tourism to and investment in Honolulu . The Oahu Visitors Bureau, the Hawaii Convention Center , the Honolulu Film Office, and the Hawaii International Film Association joined Mayor Hannemann in this effort.

Philippines . November 26 – December 1, 2005 . Mayor Hannemann led a Honolulu delegation to the Philippines , meeting with Philippines President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Manila Mayor Jose "Lito" Atienza, Jr., and other government and business leaders. The Mayor reaffirmed Honolulu 's Sister-City relationships with Manila , Vigan, and Laoag, securing commitments from the mayors of these cities to participate in the Filipino Trade Centennial Exposition to be held December 2006 in Honolulu .

Honolulu Festival -- March 10-12, 2006 . The 12 th Annual Honolulu Festival will bring performing and cultural groups from the Asia Pacific region together in Honolulu in a celebration of Pacific harmony and art. Of the major annual Hawaii festivals, the Honolulu Festival is one of the premier events, drawing visitors from around the world and generating over 10 million visitor dollars for Honolulu 's economy. Honolulu 2006 City Centennial Celebration (Ha` aheo No 'O Honolulu , or Honolulu Pride) . Activities are being held throughout 2006 to celebrate the 100 th anniversary of the founding of the City and County of Honolulu . For further details, please see http://www.honolulupride.com/.

2006 Filipino Centennial Celebration in Hawaii . The centennial celebration of the arrival of the first Filipino immigrants to Hawaii is taking place through 2006. A major international conference will be held on December 13-17, 2006 with other activities running through to the closing ceremonies of the Centennial on December 16-17.  The conference will address the centennial theme,  "One Hundred Years and Beyond," and is expected to draw participants, Filipinos and non-Filipinos, from the Philippines , the United States and from other countries around the world.
