Dr. Kanthi De Alwis Photo
Dr. Kanthi De Alwis, M.D.

Dr. Kanthi De Alwis is the Chief Medical Examiner and Director for the Department of the Medical Examiner, City and County of Honolulu.  She has been a medical examiner for the City since 1984 and was appointed to her present position in January 2001. 

 

Dr. De Alwis, originally from Sri Lanka, completed her medical education with Honors at the Colombo Medical College.  After a combined internship in Obstetrics/Gynecology and Internal Medicine at the Colombo General Hospital in Sri Lanka, she became a general medical officer at the Government Hospital there for a year.

 

Dr. De Alwis came to Hawai'i in 1979 and completed residency training in Surgical and Clinical Pathology at the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawai'i.  Following that, she was certified by The American Board of Pathology and became a diplomat in Anatomic, Clinical and Forensic Pathology.  She is also a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Hawai'i.

  

Dr. De Alwis is a member of the following professional organizations:

Dr. William W. Goodhue, Jr. Photo

Dr. William W. ("Bill") Goodhue, Jr., is First Deputy Medical Examiner, Department of the Medical Examiner, City & County of Honolulu.  He was appointed in August, 2001.  Dr. Goodhue joined the Department of the Medical Examiner after completing a 26 year active duty career as a pathologist in the United States Army, from which he retired as Colonel.

 

Dr. Goodhue's medical degree is from Cornell University, following his undergraduate education at Georgetown University.  He completed an internship and residency in Anatomic Pathology at The New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center, a Pediatric Pathology Fellowship at The Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, and a Clinical Pathology Residency at Tripler Army Medical Center.  He is certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology by The American Board of Pathology, and has a Hawai'i medical license.  He has an appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor of Pathology at the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawai'i.

  

Dr. Goodhue is a member of the National Association of Medical Examiners, the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, the College of American Pathologists, the American Medical Association, and the Hawai'i Medical Association.  He has a number of professional publications in his field.

 

 

 

 

Dr. Gayle Suzuki Photo

Dr. Gayle Suzuki is the Deputy Medical Examiner for the City and County of Honolulu Department of the Medical Examiner.  She has been with the Department since August, 2002.

 

Dr. Suzuki was born and raised in Hawai'i.  She received her Bachelor's of Arts in Zoology from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa, and her Medical Degree from the Univeristy of Hawai'i John A. Burns School of Medicine.  She completed a combined Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Residency at the University of Hawai'i Pathology Residency Program.  Dr. Suzuki completed her Forensic Fellowship training at the University of New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator in Albuquerque, New Mexico. 

 

Dr. Suzuki is Board Certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic, Clinical, and Forensic Pathology.  Dr. Suzuki is a member of the National Association of Medical Examiners, College of American Pathologists, and the Disaster Morturary Operational Response Team (DMORT) Region IX.
