LABOR REGISTRATION

The following labor jobs are on continuous recruitment. CURRENTLY THERE ARE NO VACANCIES. When there is a vacancy, the Department of Human Resources will send names of applicants to the City department which has a job opening. The department will contact and interview these applicants and select one to fill the vacancy.

REQUIREMENTS

You must:

  1. At the time of application, be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law to for unrestricted employment.
  2. Show that you are dependable, have a good past work record and are physically able to do the work. Show that you are able to read and understand job related written materials.
  3. Pass a City medical examination, at which time a drug screening test is also given. If the test determines you to be an illegal user of drugs, civil service rules disqualify you from employment with the City.
  4. Provide original documents to verify identity and employment eligibility if selected for the job. This is a requirement of the Federal Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.

APPLICATION INFORMATION:

  1. Complete the labor registration application and mail or bring it to the Department of Human Resources, 650 South King Street, 10th Floor, Honolulu, Hawaii 96813. Click here for the ON-LINE FORM.
  2. Your application will be kept for six months. After six months, you must re-register. There is no guarantee of interview for all of those applying.

CHANGES/UPDATES TO THE APPLICATION:

 If you have changes/updates to any of the following:

  • Address
  • Phone Number
  • Name
  • E-mail Address
  • Geographic area(s) interested in working at
  • Type of job applying for (permanent, temporary, part-time, shift work)

You must submit the updates/changes, in writing, to the Department of Human Resources, 650 South King Street, 10th Floor, Honolulu, HI  96813.  Please do not submit another application to make the changes/updates.  It will be treated as a duplicate application and the information may not get updated.  Application update forms are available at the Department of Human Resources (see address above).

TYPES OF JOBS, DUTIES AND PAY

(Jobs may be permanent or temporary limited term)

BUILDING CUSTODIAN I: $2,738 per month (BC-02). Sweeps and mops floors, hallways, stairways and offices; dusts and polishes furniture; cleans lavatories and rest rooms. May do heavy lifting and minor repairs.

GOLF CART ATTENDANT:  $2,738 per month (BC-02).  Responsible for maintaining golf carts by gassing, washing, logging them in and out, and recording mileage readings. Inspects carts for damage/abuse and prepares damage reports as applicable. Performs minor maintenance services by checking brakes and batteries; performs minor custodial, grounds keeping, and golf course marshal duties as necessary.

GOLF COURSE GROUNDS KEEPER: $2,815 per month (BC-03). Maintains golf course greens, tees and fairways. May do heavy lifting and minor repairs.

GROUNDS KEEPER: $2,738 per month (BC-02). Maintains lawns and landscaped areas, cleans comfort stations, collects refuse in parks/recreation areas. May do heavy lifting and minor repairs.

LABORER I: $2,738 per month (BC-02); and II: $2,815 per month (BC-03). Digs and backfills holes and trenches; loads, moves and unloads dirt materials and equipment and does other heavy manual work and/or various semi-skilled manual work.

NURSERY AID: $2,815 per month (BC-03). Cares for, maintains and cultivates shrubs, trees and flowers in a nursery or botanical garden. Heavy work.

REFUSE COLLECTOR: $3,167 per month (BC-06). Collects refuse along an assigned collection route. These jobs are filled from the Labor Registration list only when there are no qualified Department of Environmental Services employees for a promotion.

TREE TRIMMER HELPER: $2,815 per month (BC-03). Assists in trimming, planting, transplanting, spraying and caring of trees and shrubs. Operates power saw to cut large branches; climbs trees to cut and remove branches; loads branches onto trucks and does other heavy manual work.

UTILITY WORKER I: $2,815 per month (BC-03). Performs various janitorial, grounds keeping and unskilled or semi-skilled work such as setting up floor panels, stage equipment and platforms, and does other heavy manual work.

WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT WORKER
(Includes CESSPOOL WORKER)
: $3,045 per month (BC-05).
Wastewater Treatment Plant Worker: Does heavy manual work at a sewage treatment plant. Performs unskilled and semi-skilled work in maintaining grounds, buildings and sewage equipment.
Cesspool Worker: Does heavy manual work in pumping/disposing of wastes from cesspools.

This examination notice does not preclude consideration of qualified City employees who are eligible for work injury placement, promotion, demotion or transfer, and former City employees for re-employment. City department heads have the right to fill a vacancy through these and any other procedures established by Civil Service Rules and Regulations.

Additional Requirements

The Department of Human Resources will review information from the Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center to determine the selectee's employment suitability.
