Industrial Safety and Workers' Compensation Division

The Industrial Safety and Workers' Compensation Division has two primary responsibilities:

1. To administer the City's safety and accident preventation program to comply with the Hawaii Occupational Safety and Health Law.
2. To administer the City's self-insured workers' compensation program to comply with the Hawaii Workers' Compensation Law.

We believe that City employees are the most important asset of the City and County of Honolulu and that their safety is our greatest responsibility. The Industrial Safety and Workers' Compensation Division staff work together to reduce the number of work-related accidents and injuries, to lower City workers' compensation costs, to provide timely and efficient benefits to work-injured employees and to return them to productive work quickly and compassionately once they are injured. To accomplish this, the following programs were established.:

  Departmental Safety and Accident Prevention
  Asbestos Safety
  Hearing Conservation
  Bloodborne Pathogen Control
  Workplace Violence Preventation
  Driver Qualification, Training and Awards
  Retention, Rehabilitation and Placement
Early Return toWork for Industrially Injured Employees

TAILGATE LESSON PLANS
Tailgate Lesson Plans are prepared by the City's Industrial Safety Branch to help departments and agencies with their safety awareness and accident prevention programs.  Driver Tailgate Lesson Plans can be used to meet annual driver training requirements mandated by law.  General Safety Tailgate Lesson Plans address everyday safety issues, identifying risks and the procedures to follow to minimize exposure and emergency response.  These lesson plans should be presented to City employees periodically during safety meetings or when deemed most appropriate by the supervisor.
