The HFD's Hazardous Materials (Hazmat) response units provide in-depth technical knowledge, skills, abilities, and equipment to support Fire Operations in these types of missions:

  • Chemical spills, leaks, and releases
  • Multi-alarm building fires 
  • Confined space rescue
  • Potential terrorist events 
  • All other chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive (CBRNE) related incidents

 

 

  

Hazmat 2

 

All personnel assigned to the HFD's Hazmat response units have attended extensive training in the Chemistry of Hazardous Materials (80 hours), Hazmat Incident Tactics (80 hours), specialized equipment use, and annual continuing education (CE).  The HFD Hazmat response units are stationed at Kalihi Uka, near the Honolulu metropolitan area, and in Kapolei near the Campbell Industrial Park area.

  • 2000 Lance Emergency Response Chassis by Pierce Manufacturing
  • Powerplant-Detroit Diesel Series 60 12.7 liter, turbocharged 6-cylinder, 470 HP, DDEC Electronic Governor
  • Transmission-Allison 6-speed automatic with retarder
  • 40 kilowatt (kw) power take-off (PTO) generator, with high intensity lighting surrounding truck and telescoping tower
