Fire Sprinkler Information Automatic Fire Sprinkler Systems (AFSS) AFSS supply water to a network of individual sprinklers, each protecting an area below them. Only the sprinkler(s) near the fire is activated by heat to discharge water. These systems react early in the course of a fire, reducing the heat, flame, and smoke produced by a fire. This greatly reduces the risk of dying in a fire and saves thousands of dollars in property loss. System installation costs are comparable to new wall-to-wall carpeting and are lower for new home construction. Local insurance companies may offer discounts of 15% off of homeowners insurance premiums for homes installed with smoke detectors. The system can be concealed or installed with low profile sprinkler heads.
