The Training and Research Bureau (TRB) is located at the Charles H. Thurston Training Center.  Headed by a Battalion Chief, the bureau's staff includes five Fire Captains, several Fire Fighter IIIs, a Secretary, a Senior Clerk-Typist, and a Clerk-Typist.  The TRB researches, evaluates, and tests all phases of fire fighting.  The bureau's staff supervises the Department's annual training activities, including programs that provide certification requirements.

To ensure that the level of performance of personnel is constantly upgraded, classes to familiarize fire fighters with the latest technology are held regularly.  Fire fighters must be able to perform mentally and physically under adverse situtations.  The TRB addresses these demands to ensure that fires and emergencies are met with speed, efficiency, and professionalism.
