TRAINING The Training and Research Bureau is located in Honolulu at the Charles H. Thurston Training Center. Headed by a Battalion Chief, the bureau's staff includes five Captains, three Fire Fighters IIIs, one Senior Clerk Steno, and one Clerk Typist. The Training and Research Bureau is responsible for conducting research, evaluations, and tests on all phases of fire fighting. The bureau's staff supervises the department's annual training activities, including the programs that provide certification requirements. To insure that the level of performance of all personnel is constantly upgraded, classes to familiarize fire fighters with the latest technology are held regularly at the Training Center. Fire fighters must be able to perform mentally and physically under all adverse situations. The Training and Research Bureau addresses these demands to insure that all fires and emergencies are met with speed, efficiency and professionalism.
