HURRICANE/TROPICAL STORM ALL CLEAR CHECKLIST


This checklist contains general guidance for actions which need to be considered when a Hurricane or Tropical Storm ALL CLEAR has been announced over radio and television. It is not intended a definitive recovery document, but may be used as the basis for the development of more detailed plans.

      Receive the "All Clear" over radio and television.

        Copy Civil Defense advisories/instructions.

         Areas damaged

         Roads closed

         Power outages

         Areas condoned for safety reasons

         Curfew in effect

     Assemble management team on/off site, as required.

     Advise employees, guests, passengers not to leave safe areas until:

       Travel/movement can be safely accomplished

       Destination status is satisfactory

     If business was closed, do not open until the above conditions can be met.

     If business has sustained damage and as soon as conditions permit:

       Conduct a damage assessment

       Exercise caution. Check for:

         Structural damage

         Electrical short circuits

         Gas leaks

         Broken water lines

       Identify and resolve life threatening or potentially dangerous conditions/situations.

         Treat and care for injured

         Call 911 or the Department of Emergency Management for assistance

       Determine the status of:

         Water (operative and potable)

         Electrical power

         Communications

         Fire protection systems

         Elevators

         Vital records

       If damage has occurred:

         Contact insurance agent

         Take pictures, if possible

       Secure contractor support for

         Utility/fire protection system restoration

         Debris clearance

         Building repair

         Handling/safeguarding hazardous materials on premises

     Advise:

       The Department of Emergency Management of damages sustained/assistance required.

       The American Red Cross of disaster relief needs.

       Employees, guests, passengers, and media of schedule for resumption of services.
