WINNERS OF 2009 HONOLULU FOREVER YOUNG AWARDS ANNOUNCED

HONOLULU – Mayor Mufi Hannemann today announced the winners of the 2009 Honolulu Forever Young awards, honoring individuals 65 or older who exemplify "successful living."

"These inspiring individuals keep going . . . and going . . . and going!" Mayor Hannemann said. "They continue to excel in their careers, give back to their communities, lead active lifestyles, and serve as outstanding role models for the next generation."

Honolulu Forever Young honorees highlight all that can be achieved when retirement is not viewed as a goal. These individuals are constantly looking for the next challenge, opportunity or adventure. They continue to work because of their passion and desire for self-fulfillment, rather than because of economic necessity.

The Honolulu Forever Young awards are part of the City's campaign which aims to change the perception of retirement and aging. 

Winners of the Honolulu Forever Young awards are:

 
  Co-founder and Principal Broker, Colliers Monroe Friedlander
 
Ambassador of Aloha, World of Aloha
 
President, Saint Louis School
 
OSF, Chief Operating Officer, Oahu Care Facility, Pearl City Nursing Home, 
Community Case Management Corp., Kulana Malama, and Kokua Nurses
 
Partner, Carlsmith Ball LLP
Trustee At-Large, Office of Hawaiian Affairs

All winners must be 65 years of age or older, gainfully employed at least 19 hours per week, and reside in the City and County of Honolulu. Award recipients were selected based on the successes of their current careers; their contributions to our community through mentoring, philanthropy, and volunteerism; and their healthy lifestyles.

The six winners will be honored at an awards luncheon at the Hawaii Prince Hotel on September 23, 2009. For information and tickets to the luncheon, call 768-7760.

Mayor Mufi Hannemann and the City and County of Honolulu want to recognize Oahu residents who exemplify successful aging and, each day, are defining and transforming what life adventures and opportunities open at age 65.  These dynamic individuals will be honored as recipients of the second annual Honolulu Forever Young Award.

 

The Honolulu Forever Young awards will honor individuals based on their accomplishments in the following areas:

 

·          Career Successes

·          Community Service/Philanthropy

·          Mentoring/Community Capacity Building

·          Healthy Aging

 

  Nominees must be 65 years of age or older by June 30, 2009, be gainfully employed at least 19 hours per week, and reside in the City and County of Honolulu. Winners will be honored at a special awards ceremony on September 23, 2009.

CITY & COUNTY OF HONOLULU ANNOUNCES

THE WINNERS OF THE

2008 HONOLULU FOREVER YOUNG AWARDS

 

            HONOLULU – The City & County announced the winners of the inaugural Honolulu Forever Young awards, honoring individuals 65 or older who have found the secret to being "forever young."  The awards are part of the City's Honolulu Forever Young campaign which aims to change the perception of retirement and aging.  Award recipients were selected based on the successes of their current careers, their contributions to our community through mentoring, philanthropy, and volunteerism, and their healthy lifestyle.

 

             According to Mayor Mufi Hannemann, "The Honolulu Forever Young award winners exemplify successful aging and how to live life to the fullest. With years of experience, they are dynamic leaders in the workplace and in the community.  These are the individuals who are paving the way for a new view of aging.  Hitting 65 should no longer bring thoughts of retirement. Instead it is a time to explore new challenges or to take the opportunity to pursue new or forgotten interests, as epitomized by our honorees."

Daniel B. T. Lau, Chairman of the Board/Corporate Secretary, Finance Factors, Ltd.,
Mary Y. Matayoshi, Executive Director, Volunteer Resource Center of Hawaii
Tom Moffatt, Owner, A Tom Moffatt Production
William Paty, Trustee, Mark A. Robinson Trust
James W. Y. Wong, President, James Wong and Associates

     

 

            All winners must be 65 years of age or older, gainfully employed at least 19 hours per week, and reside in the City and County of Honolulu.

 

            In addition to these 6 awards, the judging committee recommended an additional award to acknowledge individuals who excel in all of the award criteria, but who do not accept compensation for their full-time professional services.  The awardee in our "Manawale`a" category is:
