GRANT WRITING UNITGrant writing assistance for City departments: For those departments without a grant writer, help is available. The Grants' Unit's can help City departments prepare grant proposals or review completed grants.
Technical assistance and application review: The Grants' Unit also helps locate funding sources and offers technical assistance and application review to those nonprofit organizations providing essential community services. Funding from the Grants' Unit's successful proposals includes: $350,000 from HUD for the Youthbuild Program in the Department of Community Services. $300,012 from the U.S. Justice Department to fund disaster preparedness equipment for Oahu Civil Defense Agency; Emergency Services Department; Honolulu Police Department; and the Honolulu Fire Department. $124,785 from HUD to fund drug and crime prevention and enhanced security for a low-income housing development in Honolulu. $951,597 from the State of Hawaii to establish a Juvenile Justice Center to operate under the auspices of the Department of Community Services and the Police Department. $50,000 from five local foundations to create an after-school girls' program for residents of the Papakolea area - applied for through a local nonprofit youth services agency. |
