Who can use the library?
The library was created mainly to support the research and information needs of the executive and legislative branches of the government of the City & County of Honolulu. However, it is open to the public and reference assistance is available.
2. Does the library accept reference questions by e-mail or telephone?
Yes, reference questions are accepted by telephone, e-mail, mail, and fax and answered as staff time permits. Requests from city employees and walk-ins are handled first.
3. Who can borrow books?
Library users must complete a registration card and present photo identification in order to borrow books. There is no charge to register but there is an overdue fine of $.25 per item per day.
4. Does the library have photocopying services?
The library has a self-service photocopy machine for public use. Rates are $.50 for the first page and $.25 for each succeeding page.
5. Can I get a copy of a birth, death, marriage or divorce certificate from Records Management & Archives?
No, vital records is a responsibility of the Hawaii State Department of Health, Office of Health Status Monitoring.
6. Where can I get information on titles to real property and/or a copy of a certificate of title?
Records for titles to real property in the state of Hawaii are a responsibility of the Hawaii State Department of Land & Natural Resources, Bureau of Conveyances.
7. Does the library have genealogical records?
Generally no, but a couple of useful places to start your research would be the Hawaii State Archives and the Hawaiian Historical Society.
