The Council currently has eight standing committees: Affordable Housing & Economic Development, Budget, Executive Matters, Intergovernmental Affairs, Public Health, Safety & Welfare, Planning & Sustainability, Transportation & Public Works and Zoning.

The committees provide councilmembers with an opportunity to seek information from the city administration on new proposals for or proposed changes to existing city policies, programs and services, to discuss budgeting and implementation issues and to reach consensus among committee members on dealing with major problems. Just as important, the committees provide citizens most affected by the Council's decisions with a forum to discuss their concerns with councilmembers. In general, it is at the committee level where the preparatory work is done to assist the members of the Council in arriving at their decisions. |
