Todd Kala Apo was raised on Kamehameha School's Kapalama campus where his
parents, Albert and Florence Apo, served as teachers, dorm advisor, and athletic
coach. Through high school, Todd played football, basketball, and baseball, while
also serving as Student Body President and being a member of the National Honor
Society and Math Team. After graduating from Kamehameha in 1985, he received an
education at Brown University, where he continued to play football and baseball, and
was the Head Teaching Assistant for numerous Computer Science classes. Todd
graduated from Brown in 1989 with undergraduate degrees in computer science and
economics. He then returned to Hawaii to attend the William S. Richardson Law
School and completed a dual program to receive both his law degree and MBA in
1992.
After graduation, Todd clerked in the Hawaii Supreme Court for Justice Klein before
starting in private practice at the law firm of Ashford & Wriston. Todd then moved to a
small, boutique firm, concentrating his practice on real estate and business law. In
2001, Todd was given the opportunity to step outside of the legal profession and begin
work with Ko Olina Resort & Marina. For the past several years, he has served at the
Resort's Vice President of Corporate Operations, heading the government relations
efforts, and focusing on operations within the Resort, including its future development,
the Ko Olina Charities program and the Ko Olina Training Fund scholarship program.
In 2008, Todd was re-elected to his second four-year term on the Honolulu City
Council. He currently serves as Council Chair and was previously Chair of the Budget
Committee and Vice Chair of the Zoning Committee. In addition to his Council respon-
sibilities, Todd also serves on numerous boards, including the Native Hawaiian Legal
Corporation, Special Olympics Hawaii, and Hawaii's Workforce Development Council,
as well as coaches and officiates basketball and volleyball.
Todd is married to his high school sweetheart Jaime Paet. Jaime, an accomplished
athlete, teaches math at Kamehameha School's Kapalama Campus. Todd and Jaime
have two children, Cassidy and Jonah.
