In March 2003, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) acquired the Mobile Command Center (MCC). The MCC can be deployed to large emergency incidents that involve many HFD trucks and personnel. Such incidents may also require collaboration and careful planning between the HFD and other City, state, or federal agencies. The MCC provides officials from these agencies at an isolated location to plan their strategy and coordinate resources. The MCC provides a meeting area that is sheltered from the elements, media, bystanders, and other distractions. Once they enter the MCC, the Incident Command staff may conduct Command and Control critical to safe and efficient incident mitigation. To facilitate this mission, the MCC is equipped with computers, a cache of 30 portable radios and spare batteries, a TRP-1000 Transportable Radio Interconnect System, and an external camera mounted on a telescoping boom.
